Product Description:
Gamma Seal, also known as Axial Seals or Axial Rings, combines the capacity of mechanical seals to withstand high speeds and simplicity of oil seals. It is usually fitted in pumps, transmission systems, electric motors and machines-tools.
The design of these seals is extremely simple, as the unit comprises a metallic pressed steel housing with a chrome or zinc finish and a sealing element, which may be either NBR or FPM. The metallic casing has several different functions, one of which is to protect the sealing element.
Another of Gamma Seal’s functions is to effectively change the course of a fluid. Moreover, due to the centrifugal force this metallic part removes any “intrusive” element there might be, thereby ensuring efficient drainage subsequent to immersion in liquids.
The aim of this design is for it to bind to the axis at a predetermined distance from the surface to be sealed which is placed perpendicular to the axis. When rotating, in order to achieve the maximum sealing effect, the lip adheres to the metallic part at a calculated pressure. Moreover, the axial seal deflector function makes use of the centrifugal force to improve the degree of sealing.
Standard materials
Elastomer sealing element: NBR70 black, FKM70 brown, Other elastomer materials are available on request.
Metal ring: deep-drawn, coated steel, galvanised, also available in rust and acid-resistant steel.
Area of application
AXS VRM axial seals are mainly used in combination with rotary shaft seals. They are applied as modular sealing elements affixed in series to seal against dirt, dust, grease and water spray from the outside. AXS VRM axial seals have been successfully used in drive technology and mechanical engineering for many years, e.g. in electric engines, transmissions, pumps, power saws, prop shafts, wheel hubs and axles, agricultural machinery, construction machinery, machine tools, roller bearing housings and washing machines.
Advantages of VRM axial seals
simple sealing element with narrow installation width
sealing against grease, dirt, dust and water spray
additional sealing function due to the centrifugal action of the metal ring
good in combination with rotary shaft seals
low demands on the sliding surface with regard to the surface quality
simple installation
the metal ring protects the elastomer sealing element against damage
the friction decreases with increasing peripheral speed as a result of centrifugal force
good dynamic sealing action
no additional axial stop required
