The Nashik plant began production in 1979 following a technical and financial joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra Limited and Dana Corporation USA, called Mahindra Spices Limited.
In 1984, Mahindra Spices Limited merged with its parent company Mahindra & Mahindra Limited to become the MSL division of the parent company. In March 1995, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd. formed a new company, Mahindra Sona Ltd., to take over the automotive component business of the MSL division of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
The company is engaged in designing and manufacturing a wide range of automotive accessory products, such as Drive Shaft, Clutch, Universal Joint Kit, Steering Joint, Steering Column Parts and Axle Shaft. The company is an original equipment supplier to almost all vehicle manufacturers in India and supplies aftermarket through a wide distribution network. The company also supplies to vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers outside India.
The company is ISO-9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 certified. The company firmly believes that high quality standards can be achieved only through robust systems and the support of its people.
Mahindra Sona Limited manufactures propeller shafts/cardan shafts and components for automotive applications such as passenger cars, multi-utility vehicles, sport utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles, medium commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles.
MSL drive shafts are also suitable for industrial applications such as earth moving equipment, engine dynamometer testing, radiator fan drives for railways, steel rolling mills, printing machinery etc.
MSL's other products include steering universal joints for automotive applications such as passenger cars, SUVs, sport utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles, medium commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles.
MSL also manufactures Steering Column Intermediate Shaft Spindles and Sleeves for the following ranges:
