These chucks have been specially designed to accommodate large diameter jobs, that have to be machined by keeping only the portion to be machined in front of the chuck, while the remaining portion of the component should go inside the machine spindle. The ideal examples are bomb shell, short length large diameter pipes and the like.

These chucks incorporate the toggle lever principle, wherein the axial operating force is converted to radial jaw clamping force. Lever Type Big Bore chucks are available from 400 to 1000 with bores above 200 mm.
