Plain Compression:
This is a compression ring with a rectangular cross section and its geometrically simple form provides an adequate seal under normal operating conditions.
Taper Faced Compression:
This has a tapered running surface which is intended to shorten its running-in period. Due to its oil scraping action also, it is often used as an aid in controlling the oil consumption of an engine.
Keystone Compression:
This has both sides tapered and is used in cases when ring sticking can be expected.
Half Keystone Compression:
This has one side tapered and is used in cases when ring sticking can be expected.
Compression With Inside Step:
This has an asymmetrical change in the cross section which causes the ring to twist slightly inwards when installed and brings the bottom edge into contact with the cylinder wall, producing better sealing effects.
Compression Inside Bevelled:
This also has an asymmetrical change in the cross section which causes the ring to twist slightly inwards when installed and brings the bottom edge into contact with the cylinder wall, producing better sealing effects.
Compression Inside Bottom Bevelled:
This ring has an asymmetrical change in the cross section which causes negative twist in the ring.
Napier Compression:
This ring is also known as scrapper and it has an oil scraping property.
Oil Control Rings
Slotted Oil Control:
This has two contact lands which are narrow and thus a high unit pressure is achieved to control the oil lubrication.
Bevelled Edge, Slotted Oil Control:
This has outside edges of both lands chamfered in the opposite direction to improve the oil scraping effect.
Double Bevelled, Slotted Oil Control:
This has outside edges of both lands chamfered in the same direction to improve the oil scraping effect.
Spring Loaded, Slotted Oil Control:
This has a cylindrical coil spring inside the slotted oil control ring to increase the radial pressure.
